BECKETT AT THE FESTIVAL

Samuel Beckett's writings for radio, TV and novels will be brought to the stage of the Edinburgh International Festival from Aug. 23-31, 2013. Two Irish companies, the Gate Theatre Dublin and the Pan Pan Theatre, will dramatize such works as EH JOE, I'LL GO ON, FIRST LOVE and ALL THAT FALL (among others). The EIF will also screen nineteen films based on Beckett source material, including WAITING FOR GODOT, PLAY and HAPPY DAYS. The Beckett on Film project was produced by Michael Colgan and Alan Moloney.

Colgan is also the director of FIRST LOVE, a stage adaptation of a section of Beckett's 1946 novella of the same name, which tells the story of a homeless man who shares a canal-side bench in Dublin with a prostitute. "Elegantly profane language and mordant humor," commented the New York Post's reviewer.
